Warner Robins to host International City Experience
The event has previously been postponed, but the city is hopeful for good weather in its third attempt to host the event.
WARNER ROBINS – The city of Warner Robins has rescheduled their International City Experience to Saturday, Sept. 7 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Perkins Field.
The event aims to celebrate cultural diversity. It will offer a variety of performances, cuisines and activities that represent different cultures.
Live performances will take place throughout the day on the main stage, including the Lion Dance by Chien Hong School of Kung Fu, Latin Fusion by Ritmo Soul Bunch and Egyptian Belly Dancing by Perry Belly Dancing.
Marketing Coordinator Lera Moncrief said there will be different activities for children such as face painting, balloon twisting and a Global Beats Playground. The playground will have instruments from all around the world and both kids and adults will be able to experience different instruments, such as a didjerido from Australia.
Moncrief added there will also be a station where attendees will be able to create their own passports.
The city partnered with the Community Culture and Arts to bring an Ofrenda, which is a traditional Mexican altar. This will serve as a symbol in honor of the start of Hispanic Heritage Month.
Attendees will also be able to explore a cultural exhibit and taste international dishes from different food vendors.
Unfortunately, the event has been postponed the last couple of times due to the weather. However, Moncrief hopes thirds time the charm and it will be rewarding for everyone involved.
“It’s been months of planning, months of collaboration. Obviously, we’ve had to postpone it twice, but I think that it’s going to be bigger and better. Everyone is going to be extremely excited and it’s going to be a great way to have the community come together and showcase the cultural diversity that we have in Warner Robins because we are the International City,” she said.
The city decided to host this event due to its “International City” nickname, and they wanted to host an event celebrating the city’s cultural diversity. Moncrief said the city wanted to showcase things that defined the community and showcase all the different cultures that exist in the area.
Moncrief also shared the event aligns with Mayor LaRhonda Patrick’s vision of more community engagement and cultural enrichment. She hopes the event will make a lasting impression and leave a positive mark on the community while supporting local businesses.
“I also hope that it brings diversity and inclusivity while they get to identify different cultures that they might not either known about or they haven’t had a chance to experience yet in life. It’s right here in our backyard, it’s right here in Warner Robins,” she said.
While Moncrief said she is most looking forward to the Lion Dance, overall, she is excited about the event and for the beautiful weather forecasted so far.
“This is not just the Convention and Visitors Bureau Visit Warner Robins, every single department of the city has worked to get this in some way going. I’m just excited for all of our things to come together and for us to bring it to the community,” she said.
The International City Experience will be on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Perkins Field. To find out more information about the event visit here.
