Warner Robins’ Mario Diaz leads boys cross country standouts ahead of Region 1-4A sectionals
A school record has been broken and a Demon leads all sophomores in Region 1-4A as the Warner Robins boys cross country team approaches sectionals at the beginning of November.
A school record has been broken and a Demon leads all sophomores in Region 1-4A as the Warner Robins boys cross country team approaches sectionals at the beginning of November.
Leading the Demons’ standouts is senior Mario Diaz, who set a school record with a 10:46.69 two-mile time at the Bleckley County Two Mile Night Run event in September.
Diaz has five top-10 finishes in events this year, including two in the top three.
In the five 5K events he’s participated in he has three sub 17-minute finishes with times of 16:51.80 (Patriot Pride Invitational, 8th), 16:51.92 (Westover Invitational, 6th) and 16:52.30 (26th Annual Warner Robins Cross Country Invitational, 3rd).
He also has two sub 11-minute finishes in the Two Mile event. His school record 10:46.69 at the Bleckley County Two Mile Night Run (12th) and a 10:58.08 time at the Bleckley County Class of the Classes (3rd).
Sophomore Xavier Urbanski has also stood out recently, finishing the 32nd Annual Houston County Cross Country Championships ninth with an 18:26.85 5K time. His personal record for the 5K was 18:22.83 at the Westover Invitational. His two mile personal record is 11:31.72 at the Bleckley Two Mile Night Run, putting him ahead of all sophomores in Region 1-4A.
Rounding out the varsity boys are Thomas Smith (17:49.34 5K PR), sophomore Lucas Bui (18.23.55 5K PR), junior Tristan Warren (19.06.55 5K PR) and junior Savion Parker (19:21.74 5K PR).
