Warner Robins man convicted of identity fraud had prior convictions
Demetrius Jones of Warner Robins was convicted on two counts of identity fraud and sentenced to 12 years with the first eight to be served in prison.
WARNER ROBINS— Demetrius Jones, 38, of Warner Robins, was convicted on June 12 of two counts of identity fraud and was sentenced to 12 years, with the first eight to be served in prison.
Jones was initially arrested on August 12, 2024. According to a media release, Deputy Michael Watkins of the Houston County Sheriff’s Office made contact with Jones at a residence in Warner Robins to serve him with an unrelated warrant.
“During a search of Jones’ person incident to the arrest, Deputy Watkins found driver’s licenses belonging to persons other than Jones in Jones’ wallet,” the release said.
Jones’ wallet also held credit cards belonging to people that he did not know. The release said Jones had been convicted nine times prior of felony charges on a similar level involving theft and drug possession.
Jones was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Mike Smith of the Houston County DA’s Office and Alani Moo Young, a third-year law student from Mercer University’s School of Law.
Houston County District Attorney Eric Edwards provided comments on this conviction.
“Demetrius Jones has made a career out of stealing from others, and this conviction ensures he won’t be able to do it again anytime soon. Identity fraud causes lasting harm to victims—it’s not just about money, but peace of mind,” he said. “I’m grateful to Deputy Watkins and the Houston County Sheriff’s Office for their sharp attention to detail and thorough work in uncovering this case. Their commitment helped bring a repeat offender to justice.”
