WARNER ROBINS — Warner Robins local Brandon Carter and his family live in the Woodlands Subdivision, and for the past three years, they have gone above and beyond with their Halloween decorations. But it’s not only about creating spooky vibes; it’s also for a good cause.

“We started doing the Halloween [decorations] three years ago and at the same time started the fundraiser for the Wounded Warriors Project,” he said.

Carter, a veteran of the United States Air Force, does not have a direct connection to the Wounded Warriors Project, but said his time serving in the military was the driving force in starting the fundraiser. He hopes to raise $3,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project.

“I want to continue to help the brothers and sisters who have had some form of related injuries in the service,” he said.

As for the decorations, Carter said they have added to them each year, and now their yard has reached its full capacity.

“It’s laid out with scenes, so each area has its own scene and setup,” he said. “There’s lighting, fog machines, a lot of detail to each scene and it’s just kind of taken off here locally.”

Carter found inspiration in helping others with their Halloween decorations when he and his oldest daughter got the itch to decorate their house.

“We started buying a few things and before you knew it, we had half a yard decorated,” he said. “It started getting more and more attention as more and more people stopped by to look at [the decorations].”

Carter’s favorite decoration is the pirate scene. He said it kind of reminds people of Pirates of the Caribbean. However, Carter mentioned that each piece has its own excitement.

The public has responded quite well to his family’s Halloween decorations. Carter said there is currently a post on Robins-To-Go with over 1,000 views and over 300 shares.

“[Our decorations] drive people to the house, normally at night because we do allow people to get out of their cars and walk through,” he said.  “After we started seeing the volume of people coming through, we thought it would be a great opportunity to try and create a benefit from it as well.”
