WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — The Veterans Warhawks (4-0) showed Coffee whose field they were playing on after their 5-0 victory against the Trojans (2-2).

The game quickly heated up, just one minute in, sophomore Camren Laris took a shot at the goal but it was denied by Trojans’ goalkeeper Mitchell Montufar.

Nine minutes later, after constant competition in midfield, Trojan striker Wender Reynoso attempted to drive the ball into the Warhawks’ danger zone but was instantly shut down by junior goalkeeper Brayden Black cleared the ball with 25 minutes left in the half.

With 18 minutes remaining Trojans’ fullback Yovanni Davila threw in the ball only to be headed into Warhawk possession by junior Owen Pectol.

After the defensive line stopped a Coffee advance, Morningstar took advantage of the change in possession and drove it up the sideline, crossed it to junior Brady Bourke, who drew the corner kick. Senior Xander Davis took the corner kick and Morningstar made his play and scored the goal to put the Warhawks on the scoreboard 1-0.

With 10:32 left in the first half, Morningstar was fouled just outside the box and sophomore David Drake took the free kick to increase the lead to 2-0.

The second half was where the fire started blazing. The Warhawks got a penalty kick 19 seconds into the second half and Laris took the shot and claimed the third goal for Veterans.

Coffee threatened the Warhawks’ lead as they applied pressure, but Black eliminated the threat by clearing the ball with 32:30 left on the clock.

Veterans retaliated as Morningstar put a shot on goal, but it was blocked by the Trojan’s goalkeeper.

With 20 minutes left in the game, Trojans’ striker James Jarrad gave away a penalty kick, that allowed Drake to extend the Warhawks’ lead to 4-0.

Joey Maloney was given a foul 5 minutes later on Trojans’ forward, Fransisco Lopez.

Coffee did apply pressure on Veterans as junior forward Edwin Garcia attempted a shot but missed the net.

Junior forward Will Booker converted his first goal of the season with 32 seconds left on the clock. His shot in the top corner of the box came after he won a one-on-one against Trojans’ defender Brian Celaya to seal the 5-0 wipeout for Veterans.

When asked about what the highlight of the game was, head coach Matt Roth stated, ”I think the second goal was the turning point of the game, and really gave the players confidence in what we were doing because we were trying new things, and this goal really gave them confidence in the plan.”

Roth also stated that he believes Brady Bourke had the biggest impact on the game.

“We put a lot on his shoulders to do certain things a certain way, and he lived up to the goals. He did everything we asked him to and the way we asked him to,” Roth said.
