Veterans Warhawks head into State Bank Holiday Classic undefeated
Friday night the Veterans Warhawks raised their
overall record to an even 10-0 following a 75-52 victory over the Northside
Eagles, their second of the season. The Warhawks held the Eagles to less than
10 points during each of the first two quarters of the game and failed to trail
throughout the contest. Veterans dominated the inter-county matchup from start
to finish.
What’s next for the Warhawks? The State Bank
Holiday Classic at Mary Persons High School in nearby Monroe County. The
tournament takes place from Friday, Dec. 27-Monday, Dec. 30. Veterans will be
coming into that tournament playing their best basketball and head coach Brett
Hardy knows playing well at the State Bank can help his team when the region
side of the schedule begins next year. “We need a tournament atmosphere with
the region schedule coming up,” said Hardy. The Veterans begin region play On
January 3 at Bainbridge. “We have to keep getting better because the second
half of the season will be tough,” added Hardy.
Veterans finished second in the region regular
season and second in the region tournament to Warner Robins.
Along with Warhawks, the Perry Panthers will also
be playing in the State Bank. The Panthers are 1-5 this season and have lost
their last three games including 79-50 at Veterans on Dec. 10. The Panthers
will play Druid Hills (6-7 overall) in their tournament opener while Veterans
will play Monticello (2-7). “We are looking forward to it,” said Hardy of beginning
the tournament.
