Basketball Roundup: Jan 7-11

The weekend had both Veterans and Warner Robins,

the girls and boys programs, turn in dominant performances on the road, while

the Westfield Lady Hornets turned in a big comeback victory at home Friday. A

couple teams are beginning their region schedules while others are looking to

add to first place positions at the top of their respective standings.

Houston County

The Lady Bears (12-3) are undefeated through the

first pair of region games this season and will host rival Northside Tuesday

night. Houston County defeated Coffee 50-44 on the road Friday.

The Bears (6-7, 0-2) dropped to 0-2 in Region 1-6A

play after losing at Coffee 53-46 Friday. The bears will host a Northside

Eagles team looking to make inroads into the region standings by winning their

opener Tuesday (7:30 p.m.).

Northside

The Eagles (9-4) lost a tough game at home to

Warner Robins Saturday afternoon (see column) and will look to bounce back at

Houston County Tuesday before hosting Valdosta Friday (7:30 p.m.). Northside

leading scorer Jamarcus Thompson and junior point guard Tre Grane scored a

team-high 15 points during the loss. Sophomore guard Gage Williams looked good

coming off the bench and scoring seven points while playing solid in the

backcourt alongside Grane.

The Lady Eagles (9-3) also fell to rival Warner

Robins 64-52 Saturday after failing to lead or tie the game during the second

half. Down by nine after three quarters, Northside pulled within five points

with 4:52 remaining in the game. Nine fourth quarter points by Demonettes

senior point guard Courtney Davis helped her team seal the victory. Northside

junior guard Kamia Ridley scored 15 points. The Lady Eagles will be at Houston

County Tuesday (6 p.m.) and will host Valdosta Friday (6 p.m.)

Perry

The Lady Panthers (2-8, 0-2) and Panthers (3-6,

1-1) will get back on the court for the first time since participating in the

Mary Persons Holiday tournament last week. The Lady Panthers are looking for

their first region win when they host Howard Tuesday (6 p.m.) while their

counterparts are looking to get over .500 in region play against a Huskies team

that has been playing well this season.

Veterans

The Warhawks (14-1, 1-0) and Lady Warhawks (13-2,

1-0) won on the road Friday at West Laurens. Both teams won  by

double-figures and will get back to Region 1-5A play Tuesday at Harris

County.

Warner Robins

The Demons (12-1) and Demonettes (8-7) took care of

one of their rivals, Northside, on Saturday and will get another chance to

secure local bragging rights when they play at Veterans Friday.

Westfield

The Lady Hornets came back from an early

double-digit deficit to defeat regional opponent Southland Academy 44-43 in

overtime Friday. Westfield will host ACE Tuesday night beginning with the girls

game at 6 p.m.
