Thursday evening, a two-vehicle accident involving a pickup truck and a motorcycle occurred at the intersection of Highway 49, and Houston Lake Road. The Houston County Sheriff’s Office assisted in traffic control, and the event ultimately came under the Georgia State Patrol.

Byron Police Department Chief Wesley Cannon informed the Houston Home Journal that an officer with the Byron Police department had clocked a motorcyclist speeding, going 67 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone, but when the officer turned his vehicle around, the motorcycle sped away.

“When stuff like this happens, what you want to try to do is get a tag number, maybe get a good description of it, just in case the suspect gets away. But the officer never had a chance to do it,” Cannon said.

Cannon said he believed that the last time the officer saw the motorcycle, it was making a right turn from Dunbar Road onto Highway 49, in the northbound lanes.

Cannon explained the officer traveled northbound on Highway 49, and when he got to the intersection of Houston Lake Road and the highway, he encountered a two-vehicle accident that involved a motorcycle and a pickup truck.

Peach County Coroner Kerry Rooks confirmed that there was a fatality as a result of the accident. The driver of the motorcycle involved was 35-year-old Deandra Reynolds.

As of Friday afternoon, there was no information readily available from the Georgia State Patrol regarding the incident.
