The get back: Veterans to shake off consecutive losses

After losing a pure defensive war to Houston County last week, the Veterans Warhawks (4-2) look to recoup as they prepare for region play against Wayne County (2-4).

The Warhawks have lost two straight and in both outings, Veterans’ passing game was limited significantly compared to past production. Against Oconee County, Veterans didn’t crack 100 passing yards and threw two interceptions. Against Houston County, Veterans hit the ground hard and surprisingly, didn’t attempt to stretch the defense, which led to not many attempts or yards. That might be something Veterans tries to fix against Wayne County given the schedule doesn’t get any easier with No. 6 Coffee, No.1 Ware County then No.3 Warner Robins.

The loss to Houston County dropped Veterans from No.7 in Class 5A to No.10. With region play here, Veterans is hungry to get back to how they were just a few weeks ago.

Don’t be surprised if you see Veterans’ senior quarterback, Blake Ethridge, have his best game of the year after being kept under 100 yards with no touchdowns in back-to-back games.

Veterans hosts Wayne County on Freedom Field Friday, Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m.
