Thankful For Our Blanket Of Freedom

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I believe that it is a good time for me to tell you some of the things that I am thankful for in my column this week since Thanksgiving Day is this Thursday, November 26, 2020.

Far too often we become consumed with our everyday lives and do not take a moment to remember that we live in the greatest country in the world.

I am thankful for…

* A supportive family that has been there for me during each day of my eighty-five years.

* Being able to continue working in the newspaper field which God has allowed me to work in for over sixty years now.

* The fact that we still live in a nation where we can still vote for the candidate of our choice without fear of prosecution or worse.

* The blanket of freedom that we have every day that is due to the often underappreciated men and women that serve in our military.

* The weeks that lead into a new high school, college or professional football season as my anticipation grows with each passing day.

* A good rain that is beneficial in many ways but I am also thankful for the blue sky and sunshine that follows the good rain.

* I am thankful for a good political candidate who will follow through on most of their campaign promises.

* For a reader of my From Where I Sit columns who will let me know by letter or e-mail that they enjoyed reading the column and agreed with what I wrote.

* I enjoy the sense of accomplishment when the grass has been cut in my yard.

* I am thankful for the memories of Jack Buck and Hank Stram who for several years announced Monday night football and other big National football games on the radio. Likewise I am thankful for Pat Summerall and John Madden who did the same on television.

* I am thankful that when I attended high school the summer vacation was June, July and August and I do not like the fact that school starts now in early August.

* I am thankful for the fact that a person who says “thank you” when you do something for them goes a long way.

* I am thankful for old family photos, a Saturday afternoon nap and the fact that I grew up in a small town in America.

As I close From Where I Sit this week I trust that this has been a blessed day for each of you and I thank you for reading this column.

Whatever profession that you are in whether it is newspaper or whatever, always remember to put God first, family second and job third.
