WARNER ROBINS, Ga. – The Central Georgia Mustang Club hosted its annual Hometown Heroes car show on Sept. 16.

Although the show was called early because of the rainy weather Saturday, awards were given out and the community still came to support at Southside Baptist Church. According to the President and Treasurer of the club, Ron Semple, this is approximately the tenth year they have put together the show and the second year they have been hosting it at the church.

He said they have had car shows in the Peach Outlet in Byron, Rigby’s and the fairgrounds in Perry in previous years, but they have decided to host it at the church this year.

Semple added that the car show has grown a lot over the years, one of the growths being the number of cars that register to be a part of the show. Motorcycles were also welcomed at the show.

For this show, they offered door prizes and goody bags to the first 50 people who registered. Semple also said there were food trucks and one of them offered barbeque to attendees.

Central Georgia Mustang club is a nonprofit based in Warner Robins and raises money for those in need. For example, recently, a man suffered a car accident involving a log truck and unfortunately, he passed away leaving his wife and six children. according to Semple. He said the deceased was getting ready to retire from the Air Force Base and his youngest child was about two years old. He added that the club met with his wife and the Bonaire Elementary school principal and gave them a $3,000 check.

“That’s what our club does, it helps anyone that has been hurt or injured. It’s called Hometown Heroes because generally we’ll find a police officer, EMT firefighter, or somebody in the military,” said Semple.

He also added that the club is made up of former or current military members. He shares that he was in the Navy and there are multiple members who were involved in the Marines, Military and Air Force.

Semple also shares the club and was invited by Mayor LaRhonda Patrick to one of the Warner Robins council meetings. During the meeting, she presented them a proclamation naming Sept. 16 as “Central Georgia Mustang Club Hometown Heroes Car Show Day.” The mayor even attended the show and presented the Mayor’s Choice Award to her favorite car.

Every car had an opportunity to win an award during the ceremony. Semple said there were approximately 17 awards given to participants. The awards included best Ford, best Chevy, best engine paint, best motorcycle and jeeps. Semple said Five Star Ford is a major sponsor and helps them with the trophy costs.

Rain or shine, it didn’t stop the club from hosting another successful car show.
