Substantial growth is coming to Perry
On Tuesday evening, September 21, Perry Mayor and Council met at the Perry Events Center for its second council meeting of September. The ongoing topics were discussed in a timely manner, as members stuck with their scheduled agenda. The council’s concern for growth was displayed at the recent council meeting. The City of Perry is showing no signs of slowing down. The mayor and city officials are planning how the next four to five years could possibly look for the City of Perry.
Topics like public safety, zoning, annexations, housing and the overall quality of life were thoroughly discussed. The council acted on a request to annex a property on Langston Road, per recommendations from the planning committee, which was approved. The council also approved the zoning of land for government use on Langston Road. Discussed during the meeting, were the developments of a new single-family subdivision coming to Langston Road, as well. More details on the progress of this subdivision will be discussed as they are provided.
The Middle Georgia Regional Commission is assisting the City of Perry with its new strategic plan for the next five years. Mayor Randall Walker recently stated, “I personally do not want people to live in substandard housing. We know growth and change will come, so it’s important that we stay ahead of the curve. In fact, we have means of acquiring grants, funding and even city funding to improve the quality of their living conditions.”
Substantial growth is coming to Perry, as many businesses are expecting to improve from the recent career fair, which the City of Perry hosted. A short time ago, City Manager Lee Gilmour mentioned, “We just anticipate that growth will accelerate in Perry.” We can expect big changes to occur in fair town as we move into the 2022 calendar year.
“When we’re gone, everyone will say, those council members, the mayor and the city of Perry did a good job,” said Councilman Willie King. Scott Cox and other community figures had opportunities to take the floor.
Afterward, there were a few short council and staff items before the council meeting was adjourned. Perry Mayor and Council meet in a regular session on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 6:00 p.m. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 4, 2021. Items that were discussed during Tuesday’s council meeting will be discussed at length during the next Perry Council meeting. The general public is more than welcomed to attend.
