Student athletes come together at Fields of Faith
The Flint River Fellowship of Christian Athletes gathered Wednesday at Freedom Field for its annual Fields of Faith event.
The event revolved around students and student athletes from schools throughout middle Georgia sharing testimonies, worshipping, and praying together. It started in the early 2000s and is held every October.
The Southside Worship band performed throughout the night. Local students like Perry Middle School student Jacob Lyles and Houston County High School student Nathan Stuckey shared their testimonies.
“Before I knew Christ, I ignored God,” Lyles said. “To me church was just a boring event that my family and I went to every Wednesday and Sunday. While at church the sermon would go through one ear and out the other for me. But six years ago, my Sunday school teacher told me this; “God loves you even when you’re ignoring him, even when you may look away, he’s still trying his best to make you repent from your sins.”
Lyles said he thought about what his teacher said the rest of the week and realized how much God loved him.
“I told my parents that week I wanted to be saved,” Lyles said. “From that point on, I started to put God’s word into action. I began applying God’s word to my life and talking to my non-Christian friends about him. First Peter chapter three verse eighteen says God also suffered once for sins. The one who did what was right suffered for the ones that did not do right. His body was put to death, but the Holy Spirit brought him back to life. This means even when you’re ignoring God and even though we’re sinners, he still loves you so much
