Softball Roundup: Shakeup in Region 2-5A standings

Recap last week’s softball with the Softball Roundup.

The three-way tie for the lead in Region 2-5A has finally been broken, Perry remains on top of Region 1-4A and Westfield got their first region win this week.

Houston County

Kendall Carswell walked the game off in five innings on Tuesday with a three-run home run. Game 1 of the doubleheader went to nine innings and Maddy Kinkade hit a walk-off double to win it 8-7 for Veterans. That was after Katelyn Haines tied the game at seven with a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh.

HoCo scored seven unanswered runs to take a 7-4 lead in Game 2, but Veterans outscored them 7-1 to close out the series.

Northside

Northside was swept by Coffee this week, and outscored 37-1 in the series. They lost 9-1 at home on Tuesday and 12-0 and 16-0 on the road on Thursday.

Perry

The Lady Panthers remain atop the Region 1-4A standings with a 16-4 win at home against Ware County on Tuesday. They were unstoppable at the plate as they finished 13-of-27 and got home runs from Avery Grant, Cason Gentry, Kamryn Fielder and Rayanna Harrell.

Veterans

Veterans trailed 7-4 in the bottom of the seventh of Game 1, Katelyn Haines tied it up with a three-run bomb and Maddy Kinkade had the walk-off double in the bottom of the ninth. The Lady ‘Hawks, again, trailed 7-4 in Game 2 after allowing seven unanswered runs, but they outscored the Lady Bears 7-1 to clinch the series win.

Haines, Bella Fendley and Kharisma “Rizzy” White all had critical home runs.

Warner Robins

The Demonettes continued their skid this week as they lost to crosstown rival Northside 17-5 on Monday.

Westfield

The Lady Hornets jumped on Brookstone early to go up 6-2 by the end of the third inning in their eventual 10-3 win. Lauren Davidson picked up the win in seven innings with five strikeouts, four balls and one earned run.
