Sen. Tolleson hosts Jekyll Island State Park Authority oversight committee

State Sen. Ross Tolleson (R-Perry) recently hosted the Jekyll Island State Park Authority Oversight Committee at the Jekyll Island Convention Center. 

Sen. Tolleson serves as chairman of the committee.

“Jekyll Island remains one of Georgia’s many hidden gems and it is our responsibility to ensure the preservation of the natural aesthetics for future generations,” said Sen. Tolleson. “The meeting was a success with environmentalist groups, businesses, legislators and members of the Jekyll Island State Park Authority providing invaluable feedback and ideas for the future of the island.”

Members of the committee met to discuss a new proposal that would limit development by acreage rather than percentage of land. Since 1971, Georgia law has limited development on the island to 35 percent of land area; land area would now be considered in acres.

The Jekyll Island-State Park Authority Oversight Committee is responsible for reviewing the authority’s annual financial position and ensuring the authority’s statutory duties and functions are accomplished successfully and in accordance with Georgia law.
