Ronnie Miller takes gold at NHPA World Championship

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

In July, Ronnie Miller, a Perry native, was named class champion at the National Horseshoe Pitching Association (NHPA) Championships held in Monroe, Louisiana. After a 10-year cold streak, Ronnie brought home the gold again, having won the title back in 2012.

“It’s awesome — it had been 10 years since I won one,” Ronnie said. “I was on kind of a cold streak for the last 10 years. Last year, I was tied for first but I lost in a playoff. That was kind of heartbreaking last year, and to come back this year, I think it made it better after losing a playoff on the last day — to actually come back and win.”

Ronnie also wanted to thank all of the people at the NHPA for making all of this possible. And he wanted to send a special shout out to Marcus Waters, who supported him throughout the tournament.

“We worked together for 30 years, we pitched in the same clubs (Cordele and Perry) and we wound up in the same class,” Ronnie said. “He was out there encouraging me the whole time.”

Ronnie Miller, the Class C2 Champion, will continue pitching horseshoes, and he will attempt to defend his title next year.
