Robins Officers’ Spouses’ Club awards scholars
Six seniors from Houston County high schools were awarded scholarships by the Robins Officers’ Spouses’ Club (ROSC) in May. The 2013 ROSC scholars are: Abigail Ball, Warner Robins High; Ian Filer, Catherine Greene, Anna Lilley and Lesley Sheeley, Houston County High; and Patrick Nakayama, Veterans High.
The students received scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $3,000. They were honored at a reception held at Robins Air Force Base. Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Bob McMahon was the guest speaker. Col. Mitch Butikofer, 78th Air Base Wing Commander, and Superintendent Robin Hines were among those present to congratulate the students. The scholars are pictured with Hines (from left): Lilley, Ball, Nakayama, Filer, Sheeley and Greene.
Ball is an honors student at Warner Robins High. She has been very involved with Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) as well as Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). Abigail is a great golf player and has spent the last four years playing golf on her Warner Robins High team. She plans to attend Liberty University in Virginia to study industrial engineering.
Filer, a senior at Houston County High, is also an honors student. He has participated in Houston County’s marching and competition bands for the past four years. Ian will attend Georgia College and State University in the fall to begin his education toward earning a doctorate of pharmacy.
Greene is a member of the National Honors society at Houston County High. She received the Georgia Certificate of Merit, performed in District Honor choir, All-State Choir and was chosen as the March 2013 Optimist student of the month for the Warner Robins Optimist Club. She plans to attend the University of Georgia to study international relations.
Lilley is an honors student at Houston County High. She also takes classes through dual enrollment at Georgia Military College. She has earned Bronze, Silver and Gold awards in Girl Scouts and also the Venture Crew Bronze Award. She has been a member of her school’s soccer team and also a member of the Technology Student Association. Anna will attend college in the fall to earn a degree in civil engineering.
Nakayama is graduating from Veterans High with honors. He is a recipient of the UGA Certificate of Merit and UGA Charter scholarship. He ran cross country and swam for Veterans. He has been accepted into the honors program at UGA and plans to major in business management.
Sheeley, a student at Houston County High, also takes classes at Georgia Military College through their ACCEL dual enrollment program. Lesley has been a member of the football/competition cheerleading squad at HCHS throughout her entire school career and has participated in many other clubs and activities. Lesley plans to attend college in the fall and obtain a degree as a physical therapist.
