Responding to tragedy
Harvest
Church in Warner Robins held a prayer vigil on Saturday evening in honor of the
victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
People
bowed their heads to pray for the innocent lives taken, some wiped tears fro
their faces as they held their children during the service.
After
Friday’s tragedy, Houston County parents, much like the rest of the nation,
were grieving and concerned about their own children’s safety.
The
Houston County Board of Education released a statement Monday that said, “Like
everyone, we are deeply saddened by the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut. Our
thoughts and hearts are with the Sandy Hook Elementary School family and the
entire community.
This terrible tragedy makes us all hug our children closer and also reminds us
about the importance of school safety. Our parents often hear us say that
“Safety is our number one priority.” Please know that emergency
response plans are in place at every school. These plans have been developed in
partnership with our School Resource Officer with local law enforcement. Our
schools regularly practice emergency response drills, and we continually
evaluate our safety and security procedures.
Our school counselors and other administrators will be available for students
throughout the week if they have questions or concerns.
Our
prayers go out to all of the Newtown families, especially those who have lost
precious loved ones. Please continue to keep the Newtown community in your
thoughts and prayers.”
