Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

On Tuesday, Sept. 27, Northside High School hosted part two of the Region 6A Playdate. The first Region Playdate took place a week earlier at Veterans High School. Both of these play dates are instrumental in seeding the region tournament that will provide the path to the volleyball playoffs at the end of the season. The teams that were here tonight were Houston County, Veterans and Northside, all from Warner Robins. Other teams in the region that were present were Thomas County Central, Tift County and Lee County. All of the matches were competitive and most of the schools played two matches this evening while Northside had played three.

Northside started the Region Playdate on Court One playing Thomas County Central and winning the best-of-three set match two sets to one. Northside played Lee County, but they lost the match in two close sets. Their final match was against Tift County, and the Lady Eagles squeaked out the win in three sets. The Lady Eagles stats for all three matches were 31 aces, 24 kills, 21 digs; Northside was able to minimize the number of service errors with only 14 for all matches, which proved to their success. The Lady Eagles stat leaders were Xaniya (#21) with 12 kills and 4 blocks, Emily (#27) with 8 aces and 7 kills, Jaydeen (#38) the libero with 9 digs and 8 aces, and Peyton (#19) 8 aces and 6 digs.

Veterans had a strong showing in both their matches against Thomas County Central and Tift County. The Lady Warhawks were comfortable in the first match against TCC winning in two sets 25-13 and 25-15. The Warhawks dominated the match in kills, aces and digs. Veterans closed out the evening with the final match battle against Tift County winning in two sets, and the scores were 25-21, 25-18. The matches were close, but the Lady Warhawks led the majority of both sets.

Houston County had two of the toughest opponents this evening squaring off against Tift County and Lee County. The Lady Bears’ first match was against Tift County, and they won easily in two sets. Houston County then faced off against Lee County winning in closer matches but still in two sets. Coach Maria Huelsman commented at the end of the match “she was blessed to have great group of girls that strived to work hard every day in practice and matches.” Maria emphasized to the girls to stay focus in all sets and matches and to approach each day “one day at a time.”

All of the 6A Region teams faired well this evening, and many should have great success at the region tournament, which determines seeds in the playoffs.
