RAFB recognized for energy sustainment
Robins Air Force Base’s energy efforts have earned special recognition from the Georgia Public Service Commissioner.
Tim Echols presented Robins with the sustainability recognition award during the Georgia Alternative Fueled Vehicle Road Show, which recently made a stop at the Museum of Aviation.
The commissioner lauded the installation for its innovations with clean energy, its use of energy-efficient light bulbs, and its commitment to install eco-friendly heating and cooling systems.
“I really see the military, your base and our state leading the way,” Echols said. “These old habits can be broken with the right discipline.”
The road show, now in its fourth year, offered base and community leaders the opportunity to interact with a variety of vehicles running on electricity, propane, bodiesel and natural gas or solar energy.
Additionally, several clean energy advocates spoke about the economic and environmental benefits of alternative fuel, including 1st Lt. Andrew Shurman, 78th Logistics Readiness Squadron Fuels Management Flight.
Shurman explained the base’s role in the mission to promote energy-efficient standards.
“We’re (Robins) working to do our part to be good stewards of the environment as we head into the future,” he said.
