Qualifying candidates for Post 1 Centerville City Council – Meet Robert “Bob” Bird
Robert Bird, known as “Bob” to his friends, was born in the state of Indiana, but because he was an “Army brat,” he and his family moved around quite a bit. Other states in which he’s lived are Hawaii, Northern Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee.
“My father retired to Clarksville, Tennessee, and that’s where I consider my “hometown” to be, though I no longer have any family there,” Bird said. ”I graduated high school there, and then graduated from the University of Tennessee with an engineering degree. I also have a master’s degree in engineering from Georgia Tech.”
For the last 20-plus years, Bird has lived in Houston County with 14 of those being in Centerville. He currently works at Robins Air Force Base as an electronics engineer.
While Bird has never held or run for a political office before, he said that it’s something that he’s considered for quite some time.
“I have a longstanding interest in government and politics,” he explained. “My family and I have chosen to make Centerville our home, and we have loved the direction it’s taken over the past few years.”
The changes he most commends are those of Centerville’s small business growth, the Farmers Market, Food Truck Fridays and especially Center Park at Centerville. With all that the city has given, Bird said that it’s time for him to give back.
“I want to ensure that it continues on its current positive track of growth and prosperity,” he stated.
If he is elected to the position of Centerville City Council’s Post 1, Bird mentioned that he would like to continue the city’s efforts to create a climate that is friendly to small entrepreneurs so that the city could continue to create jobs.
“I would like to make sure our streets and other infrastructure are maintained, and I would ensure that our city uses its tax money wisely and efficiently. Centerville is already a wonderful place to live, and my goal would be to make sure it stays that way.”
Bird believes that government is meant to create a climate in a community that fosters growth and allows citizens to live their lives to the fullest.
“I’m the best candidate because through my service, I can help make sure that Centerville’s government maintains an atmosphere that allows citizens to prosper and enjoy life in the Center.”
Bird has been married to his wife Andrea for 22 years. Together, they have three children: 19-year-old Leo, who is currently in college, and Bennett and Ellie, who are ages 12 and nine years old, respectively. The family attends Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warner Robins.
