Poss’ cause of death confirmed by police

Capt. Heath Dykes with the Perry Police Department has confirmed that 18-year-old Sam Poss died from strangulation.

The autopsy was conducted Friday and revealed that the cause of death was “affixation by strangulation.” Another contributing factor was stabbing, said Heath.

Poss went missing on the morning of Oct. 15. Following a three-day search, he was found in the area of Lake Joy Road on the morning of Oct. 20. It is believed that Poss was murdered on the morning of Oct. 15.

The Perry Police Department arrested 18-year-old Brandon Warren, of 217 Brookwood Trail in Houston County, and 17-year-old Dakota White, of 1102 Tucker Road in Perry. Both subjects have been charged with the offense of murder and are in the Houston County Jail. Additional charges are anticipated as the investigation progresses.

White was arrested at 10:30 p.m. Oct. 19, and Warren was arrested later sometime between 2 and 3 a.m. Oct. 20. Both were arrested at their residences.

Poss’ body was located in the early morning hours on Oct. 20 in a wooded area off of Lake Joy Road in the unincorporated part of Houston County. PPD detectives had received some information on where the body may be and went to the location.

The exact location where Poss was killed is unknown at this time. Heath said they believe White and Warren picked up Poss on Oct. 15. He said they’re unsure of what excuse was used and where they went after that. Also, they’re unsure of the motive at this time.

They’re currently running down some loose ends, said Heath.
