Police respond to gun threat at Perry High School

Police confirmed no active threat within the school.

PERRY — Perry High School is under a code red after a threat made to the school Friday morning.

Perry Police Chief Alan Everidge confirmed a phone call threatened an individual coming to the school with a rifle.

Everidge said police, the sheriff’s office, school resource officers and FBI are responding. The Board of Education is also on scene to ensure safety. Police are searching buildings and say there is no threat within the school.

Everidge said the department is working to identify the suspect.

Jennifer Jones, Director of Community and School Affairs, said Houston County School District sent the following message to parents:

“Parents – this is Dr. Art Billings. Please be advised that Perry High School is currently under a Code Red following a threat made to the school. Let me assure you that all students are safe in their classes. There is no threat inside the school. We will keep you updated as more details become available.”
