Perry residents bring home the gold in GHPA State Singles Championship

CORDELE, Ga. — On Oct. 1, the Georgia Horseshoe Pitchers Association held their annual GHPA State Singles Championship Tournament in Cordele. And once again, several members from the Perry club finished with top honors.

Elder A Class: Larry Myers finished first with six wins and no losses. He had 255 points and 123 ringers. Dan Sanders, John Rackley and Royce Byrd finished second, third and fourth. Sanders went 5-1, and finished with 200 points and 104 ringers. Rackley, who finished third, went 4-2 with 186 points and 86 ringers, while Byrd went 3-3 and scored 147 points with 84 ringers. Chuck Poole finished sixth, going 1-5 with 75 points and 37 ringers.

Elder B Class: Jim Henderson finished fourth, winning 2 out of three games, and scoring 110 points with 25 ringers.

Elder Championship: George Schmidt finished fifth, winning one out of four games and scoring 157 points with 143 ringers.

Junior Championship: Alexander Schmidt, who is only nine years old, won the Cadet Championship, winning one out of to games with 54 points and 11 ringers.

Men A Class: Marcus Waters finished fourth with four wins and three losses. He had 167 points with 87 ringers.

Men B Class: Dennis Lanning finished first , winning six out of seven games. He had 222 points and 77 ringers. James Rozier finished seventh, winning one out of seven games. He had 130 points and ringers.

Men C Class: Patrick Schmidt finished fifth, wining three out of four games. He had 134 points and 35 ringers. Frank Beck finished eighth, winning one out of seven games. He had 113 points and 26 ringers.

Men Championship: Robbie Bloodworth finished third, going 5-2. He had 259 points and 144 ringers. Scotty Harris finished fourth, going 4-3. He finished with 230 points and 133 ringers. Ronnie Miller finished fifth, going 3-4. He scored 197 points and 107 ringers.
