Perry Players presents “All in the Family”
For those of you who remember the classic 1970s TV show, “All in the Family,” you will be in for a real treat as Perry Players present a play dedicated to the original show. The show promises an evening of fun and laughter with America’s first dysfunctional TV family, staring Archie and Edith Bunker. The play features the episodes Gloria Poses in the Nude, Archie and the Computer and Archie in the Hospital.
Stuart Appleton, director, shared that this was a show for all age groups.
“The show is a comedy, but at the same time features elements of drama and a real portrayal of life,” said Appleton. “It is also educational in a sense. It gives a glimpse of life from that time period.”
According to Appleton the show is relevant to real life situations even in 2013.
“Some references, like political ones, are a little outdated, but the magic of the show is that it is still relevant in today’s time period,” said Appleton.
“All in the Family” includes issues such as society roles of men and women, trust within marriage, technology and racial stereotypes.
Appleton decided to do something unique in between scenes. The show features classic TV commercials from the 1970s, which are sure to bring a smile to your face.
“All in the Family” even opens up with the original theme song.
“I am thrilled with the quality of the actors that I was able to cast. It takes a special group of people to portray these characters. People have expectations from watching the show,” said Appleton. “Cast members have really done a great job of creating the characters themselves and honoring the characters that were created over 40 years ago.”
Make sure you come out and enjoy this classic show to see what the Bunker’s are up to and experience the night as if you were in a live audience.
Show times are Sept. 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, 28 at 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 15 and 22 at 2:30 p.m. at the Perry Players Theatre located on Main Street in Perry.
