Perry PD investigating theft at local hair salon
PERRY, Ga. — The Perry Police Department is now investigating a theft by taking that occurred at a local hair salon. According to the department, the incident happened at Davida’s Salon at 1013 Jernigan Street.
On Tuesday night, eyewitness and surveillance reports from a nearby business showed an unknown suspect entering the store and stealing an undisclosed amount of money out of the register.
The suspect has been described as a Black male with feminine mannerisms and a slim build. He was also described as around 5’8” and was last seen wearing a dark-colored hoodie and a mask.
Davida Simpson, the owner of the salon, was there when the money was taken. She said that she was working with a client when the suspect came in requesting hairstyling services. By the time the suspect had left, the register was empty.
Simpson told us the police department was prompt in addressing the case and was appreciative of their response. Before the incident, she said she felt the city was more like a small town and was not expecting an incident like this.
“I know a lot of people here, so I feel like nobody would do that, that nobody would come in and blatantly steal from [the salon],” Simpson said.
Moving forward, Simpson said she plans on installing a surveillance system and encourages other business owners to install surveillance of their own.
“We’re closely paying attention to who’s on the street,” Simpson said. “We’ve got three hair salons in a row, and behind us are three more. We’re all trying to pull together and make sure to watch out for each other.”
Anyone with more information about the identity of the suspect or their whereabouts is encouraged to call Detective Jason Jones at (478) 988-2824.
