Perry Panthers trounce Jags on baseball diamond

PERRY, Ga. — On Monday evening, The Perry Panther Pit crew played their first of four games this week. The atmosphere at the ballpark was great and filled with fans to witness a good game of baseball in Perry, Georgia.

The Panther Pit crew jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. The Panthers scored two of their first runs in the first inning, and this became consistent throughout the game. The Perry Panthers started Pushin’ P.

Tanner Knowles and Dylan Butler scored the first two runs for the Panther Diamond boys. The Panther Crew would go on to score runs in every inning of the game, except for the sixth and seventh innings.

In the top of the third inning, Brayden Long and Tyler Newhouse tallied up base hits. With men on first and second base, Ben McDow approached the plate for one of his plate appearances. Moments later, McDow hit a ball to far left field, bringing in all three runners. The score was 5-0 heading into the fourth inning.

In the fourth inning, the Perry Panther Pit crew scored another three runs. Carson Bryant had two RBI’s in the fourth inning. Alongside Bryant, Ben McDow added another RBI of his own. The score was 8-0 heading into the fifth inning.

It was the fifth inning that Tanner Knowles scored the final run for the Panther Pit crew. The Spalding Jaguars scored 2 runs in the sixth inning and the seventh inning was scoreless. Carson Bryant was first on the mound for the Panther Pit and was awarded the region win. Wyatt Doyle also had a 14.00 era. Rusty Mann and Jonah Wynn also had pitching apperances from the mound, in Monday’s win against the Spalding Jaguars. Perry’s pitching rotation varies, but all of their recent pitchers are members of the 2022 senior class. Coahc Bryant’s pit crew are more than experienced.

The Perry Panthers batting average was .500 against the Spalding Jaguars (Griffin, Ga). For some team totals: Perry had 34 plate appearances, 13 hits, 8 RBI’s and scored 9 runs, in route to their seventh win of 2022. The expectations are high in central georgia for a few Houston County baseball clubs. The Perry Panther Pit crew are amongst those teams who expect to have a long post-season.

Perry Panther Pit’s Coach Denny Bryant had the following to say after the Panthers trounced the Spalding Jaguars: “Today was a big region win against Spalding. We are 3-0 in Region play and it is important to keep it going. We were below .500 through the first 11 games. We have had our chance to win many of the games, but didn’t get it done. Every team we have played before our region stretch has been ranked in the Top 10 of their classification. We stacked the front end of the schedule to help us prepare for the playoffs. It has been disappointing as far as the games that we have lost… but in the end I feel like it is going to make us better for a playoff run.”

The Panther Pit Crew is 7-8 overall and after their recent win, remains undefeated in region 4-4A (4-AAAA). The Panthers are 3-0 in their region. On Monday, March 14, the Panthers beat Spalding 9-2. The Panthers played another region 4-4A game against Westside (Macon) on the road.

Stats were not available for HHJ Sports deadline on Tuesday morning. The Panther Pit Crew is also on the road in Griffin, today against the Jaguars from Spalding. Perry will play game four of their weekly stretch, on the evening of Friday March 18, at 5:30 p.m.
