Perry man convicted of trafficking methamphetamine in Houston County
Edwards Evan III of Perry was convicted on Monday for trafficking methamphetamine in Houston County.
PERRY — Edwards Evans III, 44, of Perry was convicted Monday, June 2, of trafficking methamphetamine. He was sentenced to 30 years with the first 12 served without the possibility of parole. The remaining 18 years will be served on probation.
According to a media release, these charges stemmed from an investigation, led by Detective Aaron Conner of the Perry Police Department from March and April of 2024.
“Based on a tip from an informant, controlled buys were conducted at Evans’ residence, confirming that he was distributing narcotics out of the residence,” the release said.
A search warrant was then carried out at the residence on April 17, 2024, which led to the discovery of 32 grams of methamphetamine and several firearms located in Evans’ bedroom.
Before this, Evans had prior convictions for aggravated assault, possession of cocaine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Due to his prior convictions, the release said Evans was sentenced as a recidivist, which means the 12 year prison sentence must be served without parole.
Senior Assistant District Attorney Mike Smith and Houston County District Attorney Eric Edwards provided a few comments regarding the conviction.
“This defendant was dealing meth out of a home in a quiet neighborhood, armed and already a convicted felon. We’re grateful to the Perry Police Department and Detective Conner for getting him off the street before more harm was done,” Smith said.
“Drug trafficking cases like this are about more than just narcotics—they’re about the potential for violence and the erosion of public safety. This conviction represents the continued effort of our office, in partnership with our incredible local law enforcement agencies, to disrupt the cycle of crime and hold repeat offenders accountable in a meaningful way. Anyone making money off of peddling poison in Houston County should expect the same consequences,” Edwards said.
