Perry crash ends with cars stacked
PERRY, Ga. — A three-vehicle crash on South Houston Lake Road Thursday afternoon blocked portions of the roadway, as one vehicle rested atop another. Perry Police and Fire, as well as Georgia State Patrol and Houston Healthcare EMS all responded to the scene.
The Journal was able to gain preliminary findings from Franka Young, public information officer with the Department of Public Safety.
“A Ford Explorer driven by Lawrence Kakritz, age 76 of Perry, was exiting the Publix Shopping Center and attempting to cross Houston Lake Road to Wes Park Drive,” Young wrote in an email. “A Lexus LS driven by Dawn Smith, age 68 of Centerville, was south on Houston Lake Road.
“The Explorer failed to yield and entered the path of the Lexus. The front end of the Lexus struck the passenger side of the Explorer. After impact, both vehicles traveled onto Wes Park Drive.”
A third vehicle, a Honda Accord driven by 67-year-old Sharon Ezell, of Hawkinsville, was struck as well. After the Explorer and Lexus entered Wes Park Drive, the left side of the Explorer hit the Accord’s driver side.
PPD worked to direct traffic and secure the scene, while GSP investigated the crash. According to Young, all drivers involved “complained of minor injuries,” but no one was transported from the scene by medical personnel.
Mike Wells Towing removed the vehicles from the scene.
Regular traffic resumed shortly after the vehicles and first responders cleared the scene.
