PERRY — At the last Perry city council meeting of the year, the council approved various street improvement projects starting next year.

During the regular council meeting, Engineering Services Manager Chad McMurrian explained that these projects are funded through a Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant. He shared that this year, the city received $376,213, which requires a local city match of 30%, resulting in $112, 864.

The city has a total budget of approximately $489,000 going towards road improvements.

McMurrian said the city’s top priorities include:

  • Airport Road, specifically the section between Perry Parkway and Sam Nunn Boulevard
  • Christine Circle

He also mentioned future projects, including:

  • Lavender Lane
  • Keith Drive
  • Inverness Drive
  • WF Ragin Drive
  • North Davis Drive

McMurrian shared that the recommendation list can be reprioritized as needed. He hopes the city will receive the Local Road Activity fund and complete a portion of future projects with it this upcoming year.

The street list was approved unanimously.

Going back to the beginning of the council meeting, Mayor Randall Walker and the council recognized Public Works Secretary Jacques Whitfield for receiving the Robins Regional Rockstar award.

Public Works Superintendent Ansley White shared that everyone knows Whitfield as “Turbo,” a nickname given for how quickly he completes tasks.

“Jacques has been a huge part of what has made Public Works successful since he started working here with us in 2018,” she said. “His work ethic, his positivity, and his leadership really stand out every single day. You’ll never catch him without a smile.”

White believed Whitfield’s ability to make an impact on others sets him apart and contributes to the award.

Whitfield officially won the award at the Robins Regional Chamber’s annual meeting earlier this month. White said this year’s “rockstars” were selected to celebrate and acknowledge leaders who improve the community.

“These rockstars are the friendly faces and steady hands that power our businesses, lift our region and show us what true service looks like,” she said.

Mayor and Council will hold their pre-council meeting at 5 p.m. and the regular council meeting at 6 p.m. on Jan. 6, 2026. Everyone is invited to attend these meetings, and the agenda can be found here. Both meetings are also livestreamed on YouTube.
