Perry breaks ground for a new building
On Friday, May 14 at 6:30 p.m., the city of Perry had a groundbreaking ceremony for the start of a new building called The Commodore Building. This event took place right in the middle of Food Truck Friday in the downtown Perry.
Food Truck Friday is a big event with several people attending, and having the groundbreaking in conjunction with it was stategically planned as a way for people walking by to be aware of the new building and attend the groundbreaking ceremony to see the new additions to the city of Perry.
The building will be located at 904 Commerce Street and will consist of a restaurant at the bottom and three loft apartments at the top. There will also be a small brick walkway, called Perrydise Pathway on the side to act as a shortcut for people to walk from the front to back of the building and vice versa.
People in the city of Perry also have the option to make their mark on the new building by purchasing an engraved brick that will be used on the pathway.
Colossal Construction Company, based out of Atlanta, and The Summit Group located in Macon, will be working on the project to bring this building together.
During the ceremony, many people were given shovels to dig up a patch of dirt to symbolize the start of construction.
At the event, Perry Mayor Randall Walker said, “We’re hoping to have a ribbon-cutting in seven months, and we’ll be back for that.”
Meredith Lockerman, who hosted this event, added, “Everything in Perry is booming. Citizens of Perry have been wanting new restaurants to come down here. There hasn’t been a new development like this in 12 years, so it’s exciting!”
