The Perry City Council approved new fees for special events and fire marshal inspections Tuesday at the regular monthly meeting.

If anyone wants to hold a special event that requires a city permit will now have to pay a fee of $60. Prior to Tuesday there was never a fee. Councilman Randall Walker said the fee was to cover personnel costs for making sure there are no issues of concern with a special event. Walker gave an example that an event that requires a permit is one that requires closing off city streets.

Council also approved the new fees for fire marshal inspections. City Manager Lee Gilmour said the city has not charged the fees since it hired a fire marshal but decided to start to help cover the cost. The fees apply mostly businesses, hotels, etc.

Stated in the resolution there will be a site review fee of $120, fire alarm review $150, and sprinkler review $150.

Also a fee for inspections of a new structure of less than 10,000 square feet will cost $150; greater than 10,000 square feet will be $0.15 per square foot. Fees for remodeling a structure would be the same as new structure fees except a structure less than 2,500 square feet will be charged $50.
