Perdue announces county commission candidacy
Last week, Larry Thomson, Post 4 Houston County Commissioner, announced that he would not seek re-election in 2020. Thomson has served the Houston County Board of Commissioners for over 20 years. On Monday Houston County businessman and resident, Dan Perdue announced among family, friends and supporters his candidacy for Houston County Commission Post 4.
“I am truly honored and more than humbled that all of you have come here today, but first of all I want to take this time to thank Commissioner Larry Thomson for his outstanding leadership and public service to Houston County,” Perdue said. “He is great friend and I admire him greatly. The best way to achieve a long career in public service is by operating with honesty, compassion and intergrity. All of those describe Larry’s character and his leadership. Houston County is better because of his leadership.”
Perdue is a farmer and business owner. A Houston County native, he returned to the area after earning a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems from Kennesaw State University in 2006. Since that time, Dan has had a professional career spanning public, private, and non-profit sectors. In 2015 he started Perdue Blackberry Farms with his brother Jim as a ten-acre blackberry farm specializing in shipping fresh-market blackberries to marketers in the state of Georgia. In 2016, he started Live Oak Technology as a technology consulting firm to serve local small to mid-sized businesses.
Perdue has a deep love for county where he has built his home, businesses and family and wants to see that county continue to thrive under stable and forthright leadership.
“I come here today to announce my candidacy for Houston County Commission Post 4,” Perdue said. “This is a decision I have given a lot of consideration as I have discussed this first with my wife Jessica and have prayed about. I have a firm conviction that it is God’s will for my life to seek this office. I believe Houston County is in good condition currently thanks to the steady and wise leadership of the Board of Commissioners. We find our selves with good infrastructure, good finances and a good foundation for future growth. My desire for running is to continue that tradition of stable and wise leadership while seeking future opportunities for growth.”
Perdue said over the coming year he plans to meet as many citizens as he possibly can to hear their concerns and gain their trust. Qualifying for the May 2020General Primary, Nonpartisan General and Special Election, will take place in March.
