Partnership event aimed at furloughed employees
The 21st Century Partnership is teaming with United Way of Central Georgia and the Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce to assist middle Georgians experiencing potential hardships. The event will take place at the Galleria Conference Center in the Galleria Mall in Centerville on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
S.H.A.R.E. or Sharing, Help and Assistance Resources for Everyone was conceptualized after the announcement of 22 potential furlough days for Robins Air Force Base employees due to sequestration. The furloughs are now down to 11 days but stand to have a substantial impact on base employees losing two paydays per pay period – an estimated 20 percent of their pay between July and the end of the fiscal year in September.
“S.H.A.R.E. is centered on the resiliency of the region and ensuring our friends and neighbors are taken care of in times of potential hardships,” said Chrissy Miner, 21st Century Partnership Chief Operations Officer.
The event looks to offer information about services and other resources ranging from financial planning and assistance from local banking institutions, utility providers, mental health professionals and counseling services that can benefit middle Georgians in a time of hardship. There will also be participants from youth services such as the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Also potential volunteering opportunities for furloughed employees that want to give back to their community during their furlough days.
Although the event was initially driven by the sequester, it is open to everyone in the region to learn more about resources available to them.
“This event came to light due to the sheer potential impact of 15,000 people being furloughed at one time and what kind of impact that could have on the region and more importantly, the person being affected,” said Miner. “However we know that people throughout the region are faced with times of hardship daily and we hope this event can bring some assistance to anyone in need.”
