Panthers trounce Flowery Branch 42-7: Perry advances to State Quarterfinals
Kevin Smith’s Perry Panthers will advance to the third round of the GHSA State AAAA Playoffs after a remarkable 42-7 victory over the Flowery Branch (Hall County). The Panthers ended their outstanding regular season with a 9-1 record, (5-1) region record and improve to 11-1 on the season. Armar Gordon finished the game 8 of 15 passing for 142 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. DaeQuan Wright scored three touchdowns during their win. Wright was one of one passing, for 85 yards and one touchdown. Wright also had three carries for seven yards rushing and a touchdown.
DaeQuan Wright was his normal self for the Panthers passing attack. Wright had two receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown. Cedartown averages 37.7 points per game, while the Perry Panthers average 35.7 points per game. The Perry Panthers will play their quarterfinal matchup on Friday, November 26, against the Cedartown Bulldogs. Some per game averages for the Cedartown Bulldogs consist of: 329 rushing yards, 63 passing yards, 392 total yards, 58 tackles and 3.5 sacks per game. Tailback, Harlem Diamond is the stat leader for the Cedartown Bulldogs. The Bulldogs are 10-1, (5-0) on the year.
This year, the Perry Panthers have proven to be one of the toughest teams in GHSA Class AAAA. Some per game averages for Panthers are as follows: 88 rushing yards, 238 passing yards, 326 total yards, 68 tackles and 2.5 sacks per game. Amari Gordon, DaeQuan Wright and Dakarai Anderson will be Perry’s impact players to watch in Friday’s matchup. Kickoff for this playoff game is scheduled for 7:30, in Perry.
