Panther athletics named all-sports champs

PERRY, Ga — It takes time and effort to win a GHSA region title. There are eight regions in each of the seven Georgia classifications. Perry High School is a member of Georgia High School Association’s region 4 or class 4A (4-AAAA). The Panthers was named the GHSA region 4-AAAA All Sports Champion for the 2021-2022 school year. This is the first time in Perry’s school history, that Panther athletics has received this accolade. The Perry Panthers won eight region championships during their scholastic year. The Panther athletic teams to claim region 4-AAAA titles this scholastic year were: Men’s track and field, men’s cross country, baseball, women’s track and field, women’s soccer, football, literary and one act play.

In a recent interview with Perry’s chief of athletics, Coach Kevin Smith mentioned how he believes there is a lot of talent, in the Perry area. “In Perry, are a lot of greatness and a lot of leaders. We have been blessed with leadership and administration support in recent years. At Perry, we have an administration who understands the importance of athletics,” said Coach Smith.

According to Coach Kevin Smith, Perry has quality head and assistant coaches. “There is a lot of work that is put in by coaches, athletes and administration. Each coach puts a lot of time and effort into their athletic program. Our coaches also support other coaches in their respected sport.”

It took five seasons for Perry to win the all-sports accolade and trophy. Coincidentally, the Perry Panther golf team had a chance to bring home more hardware in 2022. On Monday, the Perry Panther golf team competed in the GHSA state championship, at Houston Lake. Perry Panther athletics have the full support of the community and the 2021-2022 scholastic year was just a taste of what to expect from Panther athletics for years to come. ” I am excited for the community,” were final remarks from Coach Kevin Smith.
