WARNER ROBINS — Houston County Sheriff’s Office’s non-profit organization Operation Arresting Hunger (OAH) hosted their 13th annual Car Wash at Camp Bow Wow on Saturday, Sept. 6.

The annual OAH car wash featured vendors for the very first time as well as food trucks. PetSmart and Warner Robins Animal Control were in attendance, offering pet adoptions.

The fundraiser also featured dunk tanks, where attendees could donate a dollar per throw to dunk familiar faces in Houston County law enforcement, including Perry Police Chief Alan Everidge, Houston County District Attorney Eric Edwards and Houston County Sheriff Matt Moulton.

The nonprofit organization has been around since 2012. Juvenile Investigator for the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, Sgt. Kevin Taylor said the idea came about through brainstorming.

“I had the idea of doing something for the community other than the law enforcement aspect,” Taylor said. “The goal [of Operation Arresting Hunger] was to assist people in the community by providing them Thanksgiving meals for the holidays.”

Taylor said Operation Arresting Hunger builds relationships by partnering with other departments and agencies.

“We’ve also been getting other agencies from different states to adopt the program and do the same thing for their community,” he said. “I am really happy that it has grown from us feeding 10 families our first year to feeding over 1,100 families last year.”

Treasurer of Operation Arresting Hunger, Kelli Leary, shared that being a part of the non-profit organization is very humbling.

“It’s amazing how our community comes together when something like this is so special to our hearts,” she said.
