WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — A Byron man is now in custody following a shooting on March 22.

Around 12:15 p.m., The Warner Robins Police Department’s Narcotics Division and the US Marshal Southeast Regional Task Force, served an arrest warrant on the suspect identified by the victim in the shooting.

The suspect was identified as 34-year-old Malcolm Jermaine Ray of Byron. He was found in a hotel on the west end of Watson Boulevard.

The victim was hit in the chest by gunfire in the 1300 block of Alma Avenue. On March 22, he was transported to Houston Healthcare via personal car, then to Atrium Health Navicent in Macon for Treatment.

WRPD chief John Wagner recalled the events on March 22, and was grateful for the victim’s help in the case.

“These things transpire very quickly, there was a lookout for a car. Of course, you have to take care of the injured person, and in this case, the injured person was conscious enough to let us know what happened and who had shot him prior to him going to Navicent,” Wagner said.

Wagner also gave credit to the collaborative nature of the case.

“We got a lot of good information. We were able to get warrants on the person who was involved. What was even better was the fact that Warner Robins Police Department assigns an officer to the US Marshal’s Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force. Because we have an officer with them, we give them warrants that are very specific, to very violent crime, and they’re able to work it, so it’s a force multiplier for us,” Wagner also said.

The Warner Robins Police Department is still investigating the incident. Anyone with more information is encouraged to call the detectives at (478) 302-5380 or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
