One arrested in Perry shooting

PERRY, Ga. — Ja’Mez Ja’Lee Barrett, 18, has been arrested by Perry Police following a shooting that took place in the pre-sunrise hours of Saturday morning. PPD is actively investigating the incident.

According to a press release from Perry PD, officers were dispatched to the area of Winstead Ct. “in reference to multiple gun shots fired and vehicles speeding in the area.”

“Once officers arrived it was discovered that there was a party taking place and an altercation between two individuals,” the release explained. “Officers discovered multiple rounds from a rifle had been fired but no one was injured. Officers also discovered that a mailbox had been hit by a vehicle which fled the scene as well.”

Barrett, a Warner Robins resident, was arrested shortly after PPD’s investigation began, with the assistance of the Houston County Sherriff Office SRT team and Warner Robins Police. Barrett has been charged with aggravated assault, with other charges pending. He is held at Houston County Detention Center with no bond.
