Olen R. Williams
Warner Robins – Olen R. Williams, 81, went to be with our Lord and Savior, Monday, June 17, 2013 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia. He was born December 25, 1931 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Roosevelt and Vera Williams Dunagan.
After serving in the U.S. Navy, he married the love of his life and elementary school sweetheart, Patsy Ball, also of Birmingham on April 4, 1952. They were members of Fourth Avenue Baptist in Birmingham under Pastor Knox and Ruth Johnston. Olen and Pat accepted Christ in their life and were baptized together. Olen was also a Mason.
Olen and Pat were busy raising their three sons, Wade, Russell and Kelly in Birmingham. Olen was managing A&P Grocery Stores in the early days and would soon manage a chain of sixty-two Jack’s Hamburger Stores throughout Alabama, Georgia and Florida.
In 1957, Olen’s mother, Vera Dunagan, opened Meadowdale Day Nursery on Meadowdale Drive in Warner Robins. Olen and Pat moved to Warner Robins to make a career change and to be close to his family since his mother was nearing her retirement. They began working the business of child care in January 1973 and would later own and operate three Meadowdale Learning Centers in Warner Robins. Olen and Pat retired in June of 2006.
“Olen’s generosity and kind heart were an inspiration to his family. He lived his life with integrity and bravery.”
He is survived by his wife, Patsy B. Williams; three sons, Wade (Donna), Russell (Terressa), and Kelly (Michelle); five grandchildren, Dustin Williams, Lacey Middlebrooks (Brandon), Dillon Williams, Taylor Williams and Chelsea Williams, all of Warner Robins; and great-granddaughter, Palmer Rose Middlebrooks.
Mr. Williams was preceded in death by Comice, an infant child; brother, Leon; sister and brother-in-law, Tazell and Doris Helen Parrish of Birmingham; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 20, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2013 at Southside Baptist Church with interment following in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
