Northside wins softball season series against Warner Robins
WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — The Northside Lady Eagles and Warner Robins Demonettes opened their softball season playing each other, and on the Demonettes senior night they renewed their rivalry.
Though, Northside played spoiler and took the senior night win and the season series with a 12-4 final.
Northside head coach Travis Spell said his girls have been hitting the ball better lately and against a good Warner Robins team they would need to do that to have a shot at winning.
Warner Robins head coach Rebecca White was hoping for her to team to play with a lot of heart, make the routine plays, step up to the plate and hit the ball.
Before the game Warner Robins honored their five senior players as well as presenting gifts to the senior players from Northside.
Northside got off to a very fast start in the first inning.
Ayanna Washington led off the batters with a single, followed by E’vejia Burgman who was hit by a pitch.
Audra Carroll came up to bat and the runners advanced on a passed ball, followed by a two-RBI triple to right field to start the scoring.
After a walk and and a good catch by Demonette Kaliah Stubbs, Alyssa Hoffmeister hit a single to centerfield scoring a run and advancing a runner to third.
Hoffmeister stole second, and Madi Burch brought home both runners on a two-RBI double to centerfield.
Some good defense by the Demonettes got them out of the side after going down 5-0.
Kadence Cooley and the defense went through four batters in the bottom to end the inning, still up 5-0.
Northside was able to add one run to their lead as a batter drove in Cooley, but couldn’t get much else.
Fortunately for Northside, their defense allowed the Demonettes to get even less.
After a walk and a strikeout, Taylor Alderman hit a line drive to right center for a single. Stubbs came up next and hit a line drive to second base, and it was flipped to Hoffmeister at second for the first out and zipped to first to complete the 4-6-3 double play to end the inning.
Northside added four to their lead in the top of the third, and the Demonettes were finally able to get on the board in the bottom.
The first two Demonettes were walked and advanced to second and third on a passed ball.
Hillary Haynes hit a sacrifice fly to score their first run. After a strikeout the inning was over but the Demonettes were on the board, down 10-1.
Northside’s bats began to cool in the fourth, with only two batters getting on base before the Demonettes defense ended the side.
Amiyah Cray, Kennedy Jacobs and Stubbs loaded the bases in the bottom, and Kor’veanna Slaughter blasted one to centerfield to score one run. Jacobs was caught in between second and third, and Northside made the final out to end the inning.
Northside came up empty handed again in the fifth, and the Demonettes chipped away at the lead adding another run in the bottom of the inning as Verkesia Fuller hit a grounder to shortstop to score Kennedy Thomas.
After the final out, Northside led 10-4 heading into the sixth.
Northside loaded the bases in the top, and Morgan Lee hit a two-RBI double to put them up 12-4.
The Demonettes got out of the side, but they had to score to continue the game.
They loaded the bases on walks and hits by Stubbs and Slaughter, but two straight outs ended the inning and the game, 12-4 in favor of Northside.
Spell was pleased by the play of his girls and how they didn’t give up. They only had two errors in the game, and were able to hit the ball well, play good defense and come out with an all around good win.

Northside finishes their week in Thomasville against Thomas County Central in a doubleheader on Thursday, Sept. 21 starting at 4:00 p.m.
The Demonettes don’t play again until next week in Macon against Rutland on Monday, Sept. 25 at 5:00 p.m.
