Northside to ride momentum into matchup against Howard
The Northside Eagles (1-1) come into this week’s game against Howard (0-0) with a lot of momentum after defeating Peach County last week. Howard will be playing their first game of the season and this will be the first game between these two programs in history.
Northside had a better outing offensively last week and limited their turnovers by cutting them down in half from four to two. Though they still have a long way to go from where they want to be according to Head Coach Chad Alligood, the Eagles saw their hard work pay off with the win over Peach County.
The game wouldn’t have panned out the way it did without the lights out performance from the Eagles’ defense. Northside pressured the quarterback with six team sacks and forced two interceptions and Peach County finished with negative seven yards rushing on 21 carries. The defense has stepped up and will continue to carry the team as the offense finds their niche.
Speaking of that offensive niche, Northside’s attack may involve more running than anticipated. They’ll still pass more than they ever have before, but in the win against Peach County, the Eagles ran much more than they did in week one. Alligood still wants his offense to finish off drives and cut out the penalties, their game last week saw 12 flags for 121 yards against them.
Wide receiver, Justin Luke, is proving to be a problem for opposing defenses. Over the first two games, Luke has 11 catches for 248 yards and a touchdown. He’s the primary target for Northside and it’d be silly not to expect another good game from Luke this week.
Howard is a 4A school that finished 5-5 last season but Northside shouldn’t take them lightly. Another victory would be positive for their momentum as they face Warner Robins the following week.
The game is Friday, Sep. 18 in The MAC at 7:30 p.m.
