WARNER ROBINS — In a region matchup between the Northside Lady Eagles and the Thomas County Central Lady Yellow Jackets, the Lady Eagles fell 17-0 in the first of two in a one-sided contest.

The Lady Yellow Jackets (7-2, 3-0 Region 2-5A) struck quick in the first inning, stole bases at will and put thirteen runs across the plate to show that they came to play.

Northside (2-9, 0-3 Region 2-5A) attempted to stifle the offensive onslaught from Thomas County Central by switching up pitchers and implementing defensive shifts throughout the game, but the damage was already done.

The Lady Eagles threw seven walks and allowed numerous stolen bases in the shortened three inning contest between region rivals.

Thomas County Central put four across the plate in the second inning, then several defensive errors by Northside in the third led to the final run scored, making the game 17-0.

The Lady Yellow Jackets’ pitcher managed to throw a two-hitter, striking out seven while allowing two singles.

In the second game of the doubleheader Northside could not generate any runs and lost 11-0.

The Lady Eagles were able to put the ball in play and runners in scoring position, but could not capitalize.

The Lady Yellow Jackets picked up where they left off in game one, stealing three bases and driving home four runs in the first inning.

Thomas County Central showed their speed in the third inning, capitalizing on a dropped ball, as they raced around the bases for an inside-the-park home-run to make the score 7-0.

With a runner on third in the fourth inning, the Northside right fielder saved more runs from crossing the plate as she made a diving catch on a fly ball that was almost lost in the sun.

A defensive blunder by the Lady Eagles in the fifth led to Thomas County Central putting runners on second and third.

On the next at-bat, the Lady Yellow Jackets sent the ball to the fence, which drove in both runners and ended the ball game.

Northside head coach Travis Spell spoke optimistically about both losses: “I tell the girls all the time, ‘if we throw strikes and play some defense, we can play with any team we have in our region.’ We had some good hits today on their pitcher who is one of the top pitchers in our region. We just need to clean our stuff up and do better.”

The Northside Lady Eagles will travel across town to take on the Perry Lady Panthers (5-4) in a non-region game Monday, Aug. 26 at 5:00 p.m.
