NBA approves 22-team format, the season is offically coming back

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Earlier this week the NBA Board of Governors approved a 22-team format to finish the 2019-20 season. For sports fans, this is probably the best news you’ve heard in months.

The league announced all practices and games would be held at Disney in Orlando, Florida with a tentative start date of July 31.

These are the 22 teams returning to play this season:

Eastern Conference: Milwaukee Bucks, Toronto Raptors, Boston Celtics, Miami Heat, Indiana Pacers, Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets, Orlando Magic and Washington Wizards.

Western Conference: Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Denver Nuggets, Utah Jazz, Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, Memphis Grizzlies, Portland Trail Blazers, New Orleans Pelicans, Sacramento Kings, San Antonio Spurs and Phoenix Suns.

The regular season will extend 16 days with teams playing eight games that will determine the playoff seeding. The eighth seed could potentially be determined with a play-in tournament depending on team records.

Perhaps the best news of it all is that five to six games will be played per day over the 16-day regular season. Perfect serving size to feed the sports starved people across the world.

These eight teams were left out of the 22-team format basically because they had poor records with no playoff hopes:

The Atlanta Hawks, Minnesota Timberwolves, Charlotte Hornets, Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons, Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors.
