NASA Family STEM Adventure hosted at NES
Elementary school students and their parents packed the
Northside Elementary cafeteria Tuesday for the NASA Family STEM Adventure.
As students ate the cream from Oreo cookies to match the
phases of the moon, put together molecules made from gummy candies and played
with LEGOs, they were actually learning about the practical uses of NASA’s
technology.
Josh Santora, a NASA education program specialist from the
Kennedy Space Center in Florida, said the activities are meant to promote the
STEM field and inspire students to seek a career in science, technology,
engineering or mathematics (STEM).
The Museum of Aviation received a grant from NASA (National
Aeronautics and Space Administration) to create the STEM event.
According to a release, the Museum was one of only 18 institutions in the nation
to receive grants through the Competitive Program for Science Museums,
Planetariums and NASA Visitor Centers in 2012.
