My Last Day
This position as Sports Editor of The Houston Home Journal gifted me with an opportunity in my career that I’ll always cherish. Before interviewing for the position, I had never even heard of Houston County; I remember learning the pronunciation isn’t like the city of Houston in Texas when I received my first call for the job. Now, Houston County is a part of my journey and I’m proud to have this experience with me.
I’d like to thank all the coaches I’ve interviewed, readers who’ve sent me notes, and most notably, all the student-athletes that I’ve met. Thank you for trusting me to tell your stories. I became a true fan of many athletes I’ve covered, and I’ll continue to follow them.
I don’t want to wrap this up with a common cliché. So, I’ll say this: Certain aspects of life don’t go as you envision them all the time—and that’s just life. It’s a long unpredictable road with some sharp blind turns that have no signs to help guide you. It’s normal to get lost on the ride just like it is to enjoy the journey. The thing about the road is it keeps going, and along the way you’ll come across endless exits— choices. Eventually, you take an exit that’ll change your route and bring you to a road with new adventure, new life.
And this is my exit.
