Special to the Journal

Fifteen years ago, Patricia Hodges had a dream–to instill her love and passion for dance and gymnastics and continue the legacy of her own instructor years ago.

Thus Ms. Patricia’s School of Dance and Gymnastics was born.  This year marks the end of her 15th year in business.

On June 6, the gym students participated in a gym meet to demonstrate some of the skills they have learned throughout the year.  The gym meet was held at the Byron Middle School Gym.

On June 8, students and staff will present an annual recital. This year’s event is titled Once Upon A Time. The recital will

showcase students performing a broad range of dance styles including tap, ballet, pointe, and jazz and represents a variety of techniques learned throughout the school year.  The recital is held at Wesleyan College in Macon. Senior dancers this year are Miss Jade Green and Miss Sarah Pate.

Green is an honor graduate from Peach County High School.  She is going to attend Middle Georgia State College to obtain her bachelor’s degree in Biology and transfer to University of Georgia for Pharmacy School.

Pate is an honor graduate from Perry High School.  She is going to the University of Georgia majoring in Food Science.

At the end of this dance season, we will also be saying goodbye to a long time and valued teacher and member of our staff, Ms. Leslie Smith.  Smith graduated from Middle Georgia State College with a Bachelor of Arts in English.  She  finished her undergrad degree as an honor graduate and President’s list scholar with summa cum laude (highest praise).  She will transfer and continue working toward her Masters.

Dance and gymnastics teaches not only grace, poise, and coordination; but dedication and commitment as well.  Hodges and her dedicated and enthusiastic teachers, Ms. Beth Rigdon, Ms. Jamie Arrington, Ms. Lisa Keys, Ms. Leslie Smith and Ms. Charlotte Smith, encourage the students to be the best that they can be.

As she looks forward to the future, Hodges states, “The success of this studio would not be possible without the loyal support and patronage from great students and parents who spread the word about our school.

Students, you’re the greatest.  I love you all and I’m so proud of each and every one of you.  I couldn’t have asked for a more cooperative, supportive, and enthusiastic parental group.  I’ve sincerely enjoyed working with you and your children this season!  May God Bless You All.  With 15 years behind us, I can’t wait to see what is in store for us next.”
