Meet the Warner Robins Council Post 6 candidates – Miranda Britt

Miranda Britt is running for Warner Robins City Council Post 6 and is ready to be a voice for those who feel like they have no say.

Britt is 25 and is a native of Warner Robins. She said she and her family always lived in Post 6, as well as owned a family business– Britt’s Northside Service Center. Britt attended Parkwood Elementary School, Bonaire Middle and graduated from Northside High School in 2012. She is currently working towards becoming an RN (registered nurse).

“I have always had an interest in politics, whether it be national or local, but what has motivated me to run this year for City Council was a shooting that took place last year a couple of houses down from mine,” Britt said. “It worried me because I wasn’t at home at the time, but my children were, with their father. We found out a couple weeks later it was drug related and I had already been in contact with the police for someone selling drugs in front of my house way before the shooting took place. I felt like this could have been prevented. There’s not enough manpower to take steps for the police to ride by every night and I understand you can’t expect them to because we have a large community. But I want to do my part in making the Post 6 district more safe again and revitalize it as well.”

Britt said she is asking the community to vote for her because she is new with a fresh set of eyes and ideas– not being connected to any development authority board or any committee board.

“I have a lot of time I can dedicate right now to meeting the people and listening to their concerns,” Britt said. “I want to be their voice because I have had a lot of residents tell me that they don’t feel like they have a voice. I feel we lack that communication right now and I want to do my best to change that.”

If elected, Britt said the first thing she would like to propose is live streaming the council meetings on Facebook or recording them and later post the meetings to YouTube. She also wants to find more ways to retain younger people in the city.

“I’m just a people person,” Britt said. “My door is always open. This is a place my children are going to grow up and I want it to be the best place to live, work and play. I’m not doing this for personal reasons, money etc. I truly want to make the city better and also improve my district, Post 6, because it has been neglected for way too long.”

Early voting for the Nov. 5 election began Tuesday and will go until Friday Nov. 1. Warner Robins registered voters are to cast their early vote at City Hall in the Carolyn Robbins Conference Center. Hours for early voting are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Election Day, voters will cast their ballots at their assigned precincts.
