Angela Anderson is a lifelong resident of Houston County who has also been a part of the Houston County Court System for over 22 years. She is now running for Superior Court Clerk of Houston County, and is ready to serve, ready to lead, is committed to service, and has prepared to become the next Superior Court Clerk.

Anderson was born and raised in Houston County. She is a graduate of Northside High School as well as Central Georgia Technical College, where she completed the criminal justice program. During her time in the Houston County Court System, she was a victim advocate who assisted victims of crime in juvenile, state and superior courts, as well as worked as a legal assistant with the Houston County District Attorney’s office. Currently, Anderson is a judicial assistant for Superior Court Judge Kathryn Lumsden, and has been with Lumsden since 2007. Anderson is also a board member with the nonprofit organization, Family Promise of Houston County; she has been a member now for three years.

“Growing up, my parents always stressed the importance of treating everyone with dignity and respect,” Anderson said. “I have always tried to carry that lesson with me throughout my life. I have raised my children and built my career off those same principles. When I began to hear constant stories of mistreatment, inaccuracies within the office and outdated processes, I decided I was going to offer myself as a candidate for clerk of superior court.”

“We need a modern clerk’s office,” she went on to say. “One that keeps up with today’s times, that is accurate in record keeping and prepared to move the county into the future. My plans, if elected, are to improve customer service, increase the efficiency within the clerk’s office and also to improve technology. My first goal of that would be to create a website that gives access to the clerk’s office for all the citizens of Houston County. Our community deserves to have a clerk’s office that treats everyone with dignity and respect when they come through the doors. After 50 years of the same, it is time for change, and it is time for new leadership.”

Anderson recognizes that there is access to the Superior Court Clerk’s Office online at www.houstoncountyga.org, but believes the office needs its own stand-alone website with easier access.

“Thanks to the Houston County Board of Commissioners and the taxpayers, we will soon have a new case management system that would work between all county offices of the court system except for the Juvenile Court.

“I am grateful that I have gotten to be and continue to be a part of the process of this new case management system,” Anderson said, “which has included deciding which company to use, preparing documentations and making sure everything flows right. While I may not have the years of experience that the current clerk does, I have experience in other avenues. I want to bring positive change to the clerk’s office. There has not been any change, and if there has, it’s been minimal. The current clerk speaks of wanting to put changes in place now because she has an opponent in this election. But those changes should have already been made. When people walk through those doors of the clerk’s office they should be treated with the upmost professionalism and respect, and that’s what I will strive for.”

Other top priorities for Anderson if elected are:

•Streamline processes to improve efficiency of the clerk’s office.

•Provide more accessibility by upgrading technology. With the importance of social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, complete remote access for the public has never been more important to not only ensure the safety of the citizens but to make it more convenient for those with mobility issues.

•Improve the security of the office for the staff, as currently there is an open walkway next to the front desks.

•Improve customer service to create a more welcoming environment within the clerk’s office. Through additional customer service training and cross-training of employees, Anderson said they will be better equipped to handle a variety of tasks and provide an increased level of customer service ensuring a pleasant experience for citizens.

“The person elected as Clerk of Superior Court for Houston County must have extensive knowledge of the law, court procedures, and must have a positive image within the county,” Anderson said. “Having been in public service for most of my life and proudly serving the citizens of Houston County, I believe I am the best candidate for Clerk of Superior Court. I ask for your vote on November 3, 2020 and that you stand up for change and the new leadership you deserve.”
