Mary (Beth) Elizabeth Bowman
Mary (Beth) Elizabeth Bowman of Buchanan passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2017 in an Anniston AL hospital. She was born in Byron, Georgia, August 10, 1955, daughter of Durwood Fuller and the late Gladys White Blakley.
Beth was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in the Flatwoods Community where she served as Pre-K Sunday School teacher and secretary. Beth loved her church and her church family. Most recently she and her husband had spear-headed the “Loving, Relating, and Encouraging” Program. Beth was loved dearly by her church family, and especially by the children. Beth was blessed with gifts of love and laughter and children immediately bonded with her. She also served as the church secretary and made it her task to ensure everyone was recognized on their birthday. As a cancer survivor, Beth worked actively with the American Cancer Society and served as treasurer at times for the Haralson County Relay for Life. She was a retiree of the Haralson County School System where she worked as a para pro and Student Information Assistant/Registrar at Buchanan Middle School. She and her husband were members of the Peach State Travelers and loved touring the United States in their RV. Researching family ancestry took Wiley and Beth to Ireland. They enjoyed trips abroad to the U.K., France, Spain, and Italy.
Survivors include her husband, Wiley J. Bowman of Buchanan; children, Mikki and Manny Quinones of Kathleen, GA, Brandon and Heather Bowman of Villa Rica, Brad and Leslie Bowman of Savannah; her father and step-mother, Durwood and Vivian Fuller of Centerville; step-father, Bob Blakley of Byron; grandchildren, Tracey Folds, Jr. of Kathleen, Claire, Collette and Camille Bowman of Savannah, Jasmine and Jaiden Middleton, Avery Shaw and Ivy Nix Bowman of Villa Rica; two brothers, Woody and Beverly Fuller of Byron and Ed and Brenda Fuller of Centerville.
Beth loved her family, friends and the simple things in life. She loved baking – especially with her grandgirls who she loved “to the moon and back.” She made jams and jellies from her grapevines and shared with the community. Many mornings were spent drinking coffee on the front porch with family and friends.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Services will be Friday, September 15 at 4:00 PM from the chapel of Hightower Funeral Home with Reverends Buddy Gentry, Blake Terry and Chad Taylor officiating. Music will be furnished by Joel and Brenda Agan. David Addison, Trace Folds, Sam Evans, Charles Sanders, Howell Sanders, Chipper Taylor, Mitch Dennis and Ron Walker will serve as pall bearers. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Memorial Gardens with Reverends Jim Hollis and Thomas Ward officiating.
